Somali Women Awards Enters Its Fifth Edition with the Theme ‘Beyond Borders’

The fifth edition of Somali Women Awards will recognize achievements across ten categories and introduce a regional leadership forum as part of its 2026 program.

Somali Women Awards (SWA) is preparing its fifth edition under the theme “Beyond Borders: Somali Women Shaping the Future,” celebrating the achievements and contributions of Somali women in Somalia and across the world. Building on four previous editions, SWA 2026 will continue the initiative’s commitment to recognizing women whose work demonstrates meaningful achievement, leadership and contribution. The planned edition in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, brings together two experiences: an inaugural regional leadership forum and an evening awards ceremony. The awards program covers ten categories spanning public service, education, science and technology, health, humanitarian impact, entrepreneurship, sustainability, sports, journalism and digital media. The categories recognize different forms of merit, including pioneering achievement, professional excellence and transformational contribution. For 2026, candidate identification is designed around confidential professional referrals and evidence-based assessment. SWA is not conducting open public nominations or public voting for award recipients. The new forum will create an additional opportunity for dialogue among women leaders, institutions and regional partners. It is intended to complement the evening ceremony by moving beyond recognition to discussion of leadership, opportunity and collaboration. Further information on the event program, confirmed participation and arrangements will be announced through official SWA channels once finalized.
